FedEx is a global logistics company that provides a wide range of services, including ground and air transportation, international shipping, packaging supplies and business services.
The company started out as an overnight express carrier, meaning they delivered packages overnight to business customers. Over time, they expanded their services to include international shipping and same-day delivery, as well as shipping options for individual consumers.
In 2018, FedEx was ranked #7 on Forbes' list of America's Largest Private Companies, with over $50 billion in revenue.
Today, FedEx employs over 400,000 people worldwide and has more than 500 aircrafts in its fleet.
FedEx is one of the top contractors of the US government and assists in the transport of some United States Postal Service packages through their Air Cargo Network contract.
The FedEX Corporation can trace its roots to 1971, when the founder, Fred Smith, was just a college student at Yale University. Smith was working on his senior thesis on how to create a delivery service that would be faster and cheaper than any other option available at the time. After graduating from Yale in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science, he took his idea to Memphis, Tennessee, where he ran it as an experimental service called "Ascend" for several years before renaming it FedEx in 1973.
The first FedEx office opened in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 19th, 1973—the same year that Smith completed his MBA at Harvard Business School.
In 1979, FedEx merged with Flying Tiger Line (founded by Robert R. Aliber) and acquired their dedicated fleet of Boeing 727 aircraft for long-haul international service. This acquisition gave them access to many new locations around the world and allowed them to expand into other countries much more quickly than they had been able to before.
The FedEx Parcel scam is set up to take users personal information. The scam impersonates a delivery notification from FedEx International Express. It informs users that they have attempted to make a delivery twice and no one has signed for it. It then prompts the user to press a number to speak to a representative. The scam is then repeated in Chinese
